Welsh Conservatives have announced their Swansea West candidate for next month’s General Election.

Craig Lawton, a trustee of two local charities, been selected as their candidate in a bid to represent Swansea West in Parliament.

Mr Lawton said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to become the next Member of Parliament for Swansea West.

“The Prime Minister was in Swansea to sign the City Deal, which will be worth over £1.3 billion to our local economy, in March.

“I want to work with Theresa May to make sure that the City Deal is a success for everyone and that Swansea gets the right support and investment as we leave the EU.”

Mr Lawton, who was educated in Swansea and officiates football matches locally as a qualified referee, also stood for the same constituency in last year’s Welsh Assembly elections.

He also compiled the party’s Swansea Manifesto for the recent Local Government elections which saw the part make gains.

“Last week Swansea Conservatives became the Official Opposition on Swansea Council as we doubled our number of councillors.

“There is now a clear choice here in Swansea, between the Conservatives and Theresa May or Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party.

“I want to work with our new councillors, and all of those that were re-elected last week, to stand up for Swansea and make sure that projects like Swansea Tidal Lagoon can deliver for the area.”
