The plans, which were revealed in local media on 15th January 2014, include a DIY store and a garden centre.
Mr Lawton stated "I think everyone would agree that Parc Tawe needs to be redeveloped. As the gateway to our city for those entering from Fabian Way it is important that the correct image is portrayed."
The Chairman of Swansea West Conservatives added "I would however like to see space in any new development set aside for local independent shops and companies. It is these types of shops that make cities unique." He continued "If we are not careful then the redevelopment of Parc Tawe will simply mirror that of Pontarddulais Road Retail Park and The Junction Shopping Centre at Morfa."
Mr Lawton went on to say "while such shopping centres offer convenience, it is important to remember that local shops and businesses help to not only keep money in the area but also bring money into it. Any development solely made up of large national chains would see money moving out of the city."
